Geordie detective Vera gets herself to some of the most remote and unusual places in the North East.
However, it seems that the no-nonsense Geordie investigator DCI has really spread her wings - and swapped her beaten up blue Land Rover Defender for a yellow New York taxicab. Millions of viewers are expected to tune in for the third episode of series twelve tonight (Sunday February 12), where Brenda Blethyn's character will investigate the case of a Policeman whose body was found floating in a lake.
And a fair few of those may be in the United States watching through Britbox, the streaming service where Vera airs across the pond. Ann Cleeves shared the photo on Twitter, which had been sent to her by a British friend in the Big Apple.

The tweet read: "Look at this @BrendaBlethyn @kennydoughty and the team! #vera seen by a British friend on a cab in NYC.
Ann speculated that it looked like Central Park in the background, which she said was "not Vera's natural habitat." One fan responded saying: "Well, that’s surreal and fabulous!"
Another said: "What channel in USA please? I always recommend my go to TV to an American friend who loves all things British."
A third said: "Brilliant! I wonder if the Columbo fans will like her, I think Vera is similar in many ways, except for the cigar," while a fourth simply added: "Vera is conquering the world".
Episode three of Vera series 12 airs at 8pm on ITV One on Sunday February 12 2023. It is also available on catch-up through ITVX and Britbox.
