Authorities in Virginia have detained a 32-year-old Venezuelan illegal immigrant, identified as Renzo Mendoza Montes, in connection with a sexual assault case involving a minor. The suspect was apprehended after crossing the border in El Paso and subsequently released by Customs and Border Protection last September. The charges he faces include carnal knowledge of a child without force and taking indecent liberties with a minor. The incident occurred in Campbell County, Virginia, located approximately 180 miles from Washington, D.C., involving a 14-year-old female acquaintance.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Meares attributed the crime to what he described as lax border policies under the Biden administration, emphasizing the preventable nature of such violent acts. Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed concern for the victim and emphasized the need for full prosecution of the suspect. Renzo Mendoza Montes is currently held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, with the investigation ongoing.
