Move over, Nestor Cortes. There’s another pitcher who has a quirky, delayed delivery.
That would be Venezuela pitcher Yapson Gomez, who has been playing in the World Baseball Classic. Before that, he saw some minor league action with the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Guardians organizations, but this feels like the first time we’re truly getting to see his windup, which is full of quirks that include a leg-shake or two as he’s getting ready to fire.
Would this be considered a balk now? I’m not sure!
People on Twitter naturally loved seeing it and had so many thoughts on his delivery:

You simply cannot be this cool and also be named Yapson. Too much greatness for one person. https://t.co/vSGPKu5ZC3

“Billy, this is Yapson Gomez, he never got a chance because of his ‘wacky windup’, but he’s pitching under a 2.0 ERA and is an efficient pitcher who’s underrated as a strikeout guy on the mound.” https://t.co/ImdNIfZfj7 pic.twitter.com/2feZhZxtKm
