The club announced the suspension of goalkeeper Sebastián Sosa, defender Braian Cufré, midfielder José Ignacio Florentín, and striker Abiel Osorio after being informed of the launch of a formal investigation by prosecutors.
The incident reportedly took place in Tucuman, a city located 1,200 kilometers north of Buenos Aires, where Vélez Sarsfield had a match against Atletico Tucuman last Saturday. According to local media reports, the woman involved stated that she had agreed to accompany one of the players to a hotel room, only to find three other men present.
Allegedly, the woman consumed alcoholic beverages with the players, fell asleep in one of the beds, and subsequently was subjected to sexual assault. As of now, none of the accused players or their representatives have issued any statements regarding the ongoing investigation.
Vélez Sarsfield, a prominent Argentinian club with an illustrious history that includes 10 national titles and the 1994 Copa Libertadores trophy, has expressed full cooperation with the authorities. The club has pledged to provide all necessary information and assistance to aid in the investigation process.
This development underscores the gravity of the situation and the importance of addressing such allegations with utmost seriousness. The club's decision to suspend the players reflects a commitment to upholding principles of accountability and ensuring a thorough examination of the matter.
