Vehicles smashed up after major four-car crash on busy main road in Bolton

Dramatic pictures have shown the aftermath of a major crash involving four vehicles in Bolton. Police and fire crews blocked off Manchester Road in Over Hulton following the smash on Saturday afternoon (May 20).

Witnesses reported the crash, outside Dearden's Farm, also involved elderly people and children. Five people were able to pull themselves out of the vehicles involved before crews arrived.

A number of police vehicles as well as crews from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene shortly before 3.30pm. Paramedics and trauma technicians treated those involved at the roadside.

Pictures from the scene show police officers in attendance with one badly damaged black car and debris scattered across the road. Another red car had parts of the bonnet torn off.

A GMFRS spokesperson said, “At around 3:20pm today (Saturday, 20th May), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on Manchester Road in Bolton.

“One fire engine from Atherton fire station quickly attended the scene. The crash involved four vehicles, with five people self-rescuing before crews arrived and were assisted by GMFRS trauma technicians at the roadside.

“Firefighters were at the scene for around half an hour.”

Full details about the condition of those involved or any arrests made in connection with the crash have not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted.
