A furious vegan claims she had a very lucky escape after accusing Burger King of serving her up a burger with real dairy cheese.
The woman says she was left ‘horrified’ following a trip to the fast-food restaurant last weekend, MyLondon reports.
The plant-based eater went to grab a bite at the Stratford branch in East London and went for a chilli Katsu Royale.
But the woman, who asked not to be named, couldn't believe what she saw when she opened the wrapper on Saturday.
She looked at the menu and found that cheese wasn’t listed as one of the fillings to the sandwich so was immediately alarmed by her findings.
At first, she said she believed that the cheese included might have been a plant-based alternative.
But quickly she realised that Burger King had made a big mistake.
She later voiced concern on social media that mistakes like the one she experienced can “end-lives” if the person has an allergic reaction.
Posting the photo on social media, she went on to say staff handled her complaint very well.
She said: “I was in Burger King and opened up my vegan Katsu Royale to this (picture).
"I thought it was vegan cheese but the Katsu burger doesn’t come with cheese.
"I couldn’t eat my meal. I was horrified, I haven’t eaten cheese in years and this could have put an end to that.
“I hate to think what would have happened if I was allergic and decided to take a bite.
"In fairness, the Burger King staff admitted their mistake but it was all a bit too little too late.”
The news comes on the same day that Burger King is set to open a fully vegan restaurant in Leicester Square.
Burger King said sorry for the incident but say it "understands human errors can occur".
They said in a statement: "We apologise for the impact this incident has caused and want to re-iterate that all Burger King UK staff are trained to follow strict protocols so there is no cross-contamination.
"Burger King UK understands human errors can occur and lead to incorrect orders on occasion and we will be reinforcing our training at all restaurants to ensure customer specifications are followed. Burger King UK strives to deliver the best customer experience and the highest-quality meals possible at all times."
