Vatican reconsecrates St Peter’s altar after naked man’s Ukraine protest

The Vatican has conducted a rarely performed rite to ‘resanctify’ St Peter’s basilica after a naked man stunned worshippers by leaping onto the altar to protest Russia’s war on Ukraine.

The prayer service, known as a penitential rite and required by Canon law, was led by the basilica’s archpriest, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti.
