Varalakshmi Vrat is a very important Hindu festival and celebrated in the honor of Goddess Varalakshmi, an auspicious form of Goddess Mahalakshmi and wife of Lord Vishnu. This vrat is observed by the devotees with prayers of prosperity, well being of the family, happiness and abundance. It is particularly popular in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra where married women used to pray for the good health of their families by observing Varalakshmi Puja. The sacred day also has a spiritual significance because it is believed that when people honour Varalakshmi, the blessings of the eight forms of Lakshmi, called Ashtalakshmi, are invoked.
