VAR will cost Rangers 20 points a season but lucky Celtic might still hand them the league - Hotline

Ange Postecoglou's old mantra came in handy against St Johnstone as Celtic refused to stop. But some worried Hoops fans reckon it’s time their team started getting it together after almost coming a cropper in Perth. Giorgos Giakoumakis pounced in stoppage time to snatch back the win barely a minute after Alex Mitchell had levelled for Callum Davidson’s team.

But Paul Gallagher, Irvine, said: “We got away with one on Saturday. I didn’t think we could be any worse than we were against St Mirren but that was another ropey display in Perth. It was great to see the team go right to the final whistle to get the win but I’d be much happier if we played with the same aggression we showed in the 95th minute from the kick-off.”

Fraser Davison, Glasgow, emailed in: “Just what are Celtic being coached to do these days? They seem intent on playing the majority of the 90 minutes in their own half! Even when on a break up the park they are turning tail and passing back. Too many players are too keen on passing the buck and not the ball.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, added: “Celtic really are a very lucky team, two weeks in a row they were fortunate to come away with a result.”

Rangers fan George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “Looks like the Celtic juggernaut is slowly grinding to a halt. They are now relying on own goals and professional fouls to sneak narrow victories whilst Rangers are strolling to 4-0 victories. Yet according to many Celtic fans the league was supposedly over. Rangers are gradually getting a few long-term injured players back and getting a bit of momentum in the league whilst Celtic are struggling to win games.”

But Seamie Gallagher, Govan, isn’t worrying, saying: “After being pulled level in the 94th of 95 minutes, Celtic clearly showed everyone why Ange Postecoglou’s mantra is right. We never stop and duly crafted a winner!”

Craig Gordon, Ayr, wasn’t happy with the penalty Rangers were awarded against St Mirren after a Declan Gallagher challenge on Antonio Colak. He said: “Once again another laughable penalty given to Rangers, how can a team who finish second most seasons continually be given more penalties than the winners every year?

“Look at that incident compared to the blatant claim Celtic had knocked back last week or the last-man rugby tackle they got away with against Ross County. VAR will cost them 20 points a season!”

Dundee United finally grabbed their first league win of the season as they thrashed Aberdeen 4-0. But it was a shocker for the Red Army who let rip at boss Jim Goodwin.

Derek Hay, Fife, said: “Yet again, when a team is on a bad run, the Dons help them end it. The defence is shocking and I know why Celtic let Liam Scales out on loan, he's murder! It'll be another season of keeping our heads above water.”

Tam Bain added: “What now Goodwin? We’re the third biggest spenders in the league but end up getting beat by the club sitting bottom of the league. Your defence is pathetic, start looking over your shoulder.”
