The Vancouver Queer Film Festival has announced the lineup for its upcoming event, featuring a diverse selection of films that showcase LGBTQ+ stories and talent.
Opening the festival will be the highly anticipated films Good Boy and Great Canyon. Good Boy, directed by Tom Stuart, stars Ben Whishaw as a man attempting to rob a bank, only to be interrupted by his mother and family doctor. The film is executive produced by Emma Thompson and Gia Coppola. Great Canyon, a romantic comedy directed by Ella May Sahlman, follows a gay man portrayed by Johnny Sibilly navigating the complexities of a first date.
The festival will close with the Canadian premiere of Layla, the debut feature from British-Iraqi director Amrou Al-Kadhi. The film, set in the east London queer scene, focuses on an up-and-coming Palestinian drag queen portrayed by Bilal Hasna.
Additionally, the festival will feature the world premiere of the Vancouver black queer web series Novelette Is Trying, created by Giselle Miller. The series follows a queer anti-social black woman as she grapples with her purpose in life after taking in a roommate.
