Vancouver Canucks J.T. Miller Takes Indefinite Leave From Team

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Vancouver Canucks issued a statement about J.T. Miller.  It said that Miller has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team for personal reasons.

GM Patrik Allvin added: “Right now our sole focus is making sure J.T. knows the entire organization is here to support him.”

This is concerning on many levels, and we wish Miller the best in whatever is going on with his life.  Just because he is a professional athlete, it does not make him immune to life struggles.  If anything, this is a reminder for all of us to be kind to each other because everyone is fighting his or her own battles.

A J.T. Miller chant is being organized by Canucks fans at tonight’s game to support him.

Miller made news during Sunday’s Canucks’ loss to Nashville because Coach Rick Tocchet benched him in the third period.  Whereas people speculated that Tocchet was trying to set an example for the team that they needed to perform better, his benching may have been for his own well-being.

J.T. Miller Has Been A Workhorse For Canucks

This is Miller’s 13th NHL season.  He played for the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning before joining the Canucks for the 2019-2020 season.

Through three seasons (2021-2023), he missed a grand total of four regular season games.

Miller has scored 149 goals and 418 points in six seasons with the Canucks.  He provides veteran leadership for this team.

The Canucks will have difficulty replacing him in the locker room and on the ice.
