Van used as roadside advert hadn't been taxed in 26 years

A van was pulled off the road because it hadn't been taxed for more than two decades.

The red van, which was advertising for a scrap metal merchants, had been parked up on a grass verge next to Chester Road in Warrington. The road is a busy route used by many people travelling to Walton Hall and Gardens and it's one of the main routes in and out of the town.

The van was first spotted last week and officers found it hadn't been taxed for 26 years. Cheshire Police and the DVLA joined forces to removal of the van.

A photograph released by the force shows the red van being loaded onto the back of a flatbed truck. Posting on the Hatton, Stretton and Walton Police page, a post read: "I assisted the DVLA today with the removal of an untaxed vehicle parked at Chester Road on the verge.

"DVLA records show the vehicle hasn't been taxed for 26 years. The grass verge is classed as part of the highway therefore it is a legal requirement to be taxed."
