What do a hair-growth supplement and a Daylight Ring have in common? Nothing really, except they are sold by 'The Vampire Diaries' actor Ian Somerhalder, leading some people to ask: Is the actor broke?
Somerhalder announced on social media that his company, The Absorption Company, recently launched a hair supplement called Hair. The actor, who hasn't had an acting gig in seven years, posted the new product for sale on most of his social media platforms.

Late last month, Somerhalder announced he is selling a limited-edition Daylight Ring on his personal website. The Daylight Ring, in 'The Vampire Diaries' universe, allows vampires to walk around in broad daylight without burning.
17 years. Hard to believe.

For nearly two decades, so many of you have been on this journey with me. You’ve watched, supported, traveled across the world to meet me, shared your stories with me and continued to show up year after year. I’ve never taken that for granted.
So I… pic.twitter.com/6fzfqpDrot
Somerhalder famously played Damon Salvatore in the popular show, which ran from 2009 to 2017. '17 years. Hard to believe. For nearly two decades, so many of you have been on this journey with me,' Somerhalder shared on X.
'The Vampire Diaries' Keepsake
'You've watched, supported, traveled across the world to meet me, shared your stories with me and continued to show up year after year. I've never taken that for granted. So I wanted to create something truly special for you. You've asked me for years. So here it is,' Somerhalder said, while sharing a photo of the ring, which is only for sale until Sunday, 20 September 2026.
Some things have changed, and some apparently haven’t 😉

Recreating this moment brought back a lot of memories… and reminded me again just how long so many of you have been on this journey with me.

He also said that he was signing every collector box. The actor, who also starred in the first season of 'Lost,' shared the Daylight Ring a few more times between 29 August and 13 September 2026.

More joked that he should find an acting job, while others said he should move on from the show.
Why Somerhalder Stepped Away From Acting
Somerhalder stepped away from acting after a disappointing experience with 'V Wars,' a science-fiction series released on Netflix in 2019. He has not taken an acting role in seven years.
Somerhalder appeared on a podcast in July 2026, where he shared why he 'pulled the plug' on acting: 'I wanted to do "V Wars" because it was me, not as a vampire; it was me as a scientist. Worked really hard on this thing for almost a year, and the show that got turned in wasn't even watchable.'
In 2020, he executive produced and appeared in the documentary 'Kiss the Ground,' which explored regenerative agriculture. Somerhalder is now focused on his business ventures. He, his wife Nikki Reed and some business partners are behind The Absorption Company, which launched in 2024.
Somerhalder and his TV brother, Paul Wesley, also run Brother's Bond Bourbon, a bourbon company they co-founded.
