Riot Games announced Skirmish: Ascension, a new version of the Skirmish game mode coming to VALORANT on April 29, featuring a 1v1 queue, limited Agent abilities, and a ranked leaderboard to earn rewards.
Announced on April 27, Skirmish: Ascension is the next evolution of Skirmish in VALORANT. In Skirmish: Ascension, you pick an Agent from a limited pool, and each Agent has one specific ability available from their kit. The selected abilities are meant to test your game sense while maintaining focus on gunplay.

Here are the Agents and their abilities that are available in Skirmish: Ascension:
- Jett: Tailwind
- Waylay: Refract
- Chamber: Rendezvous
- Cypher: Cyber Cage
- Omen: Shrouded Step
- Phoenix: Curve Ball
- Yoru: Clone
- Iso: Contingency
- Sage: Barrier Orb
- Raze: Blast Pack
- Vyse: Arc Rose
- KAY/O: Flash/Drive
- Breach: Flashpoint
- Veto: Crosscut
The rest of the gameplay is similar to what you’ve seen before. There are three warehouse maps in Skirmish: Ascension, and the first team to win 10 rounds takes the match. Rounds have staged weapons: the first four rounds are pistol rounds featuring Bandit or Sheriff; rounds five to eight feature Bulldog or Guardian; and the rest are rifle rounds featuring Vandal or Phantom.

Skirmish: Ascension features both 1v1 and 2v2 queues, allowing you to compete solo or with a partner on the new competitive leaderboard. The leaderboard is powered by the FTW platform (similarly to the Alpha vs Omega event) and features separate leaderboards for 1v1 and 2v2, each segmented by server, region, and platform.
As you win games, you earn points and climb through the ranks from Iron to Radiant. The higher you place, the better the rewards, ranging from player cards to titles, like the Skirmish Legend title, awarded for reaching Radiant.
Skirmish and Skirmish 2v2 have been some of the more popular modes in VALORANT for warming up or practicing before a Competitive game. Skirmish: Ascension should bring that routine to a new level now that you must consider the enemy’s utility, allowing you to develop better game sense and decision-making while also competing and earning rewards.
