Italy has a reputation for romance and an Italian kitchen-brewery in Gateshead is drawing inspiration from both Valentine's Day and our passion for beer to create a menu first which it hopes diners will love.
Doppio Malto in Gateshead Metrocentre has announced new craft beer-inspired dishes which are out to capture a taste of Italy and diners will be able to enjoy the likes of pastas, Roman-style pizzas and authentic Italian grills made with specific craft beer pairings in mind. In what marks the restaurant's first Valentine's special, the new menu will launch in the run-up to Valentine's Day and extend just beyond it.
It will also mark a first year birthday for the kitchen which opened in the Gateshead shopping centre last February. It became the Italian company's first restaurant in the country - and just its second in the UK - and extended its reputation for serving authentic pasta and pizza plus a range of around 15 house craft beers.

Now its Sicilian brewery side will enjoy more of the spotlight in the Valentine's menu, which will be served from February 11-18. The new dishes at Doppio Malto - whose motto 'un posto felice' means 'a happy place' - are specifically designed to pay homage to the brewery and to complement its home-brewed craft beer.
Diners will be able to try Italian beer-infused dishes and the likes of a Chitarre alla carbonara past dish alongside a Bella Rossa craft beer; Nduja e Soppressata Roman-style pizza which has been created to complement a honey IPA and Italian sharing board Brace Mista. This whopping meal includes an 8oz Scottish sirloin steak; 23oz whole roast chicken; 24oz pork ribs and 8oz Italian sausages, served with wedges, vegetables, beer-flavour mayonnaise and craft beer gravy - and all accompanied by Doppio Malto’s Sexy IPA.
Customers not so beer-inclined have the option of celebrating Valentine's Day with a 'romantic' £27.95 three-course menu including the likes of a sharing board starter while beer still gets a look-in with the 'chef’s special' dessert: a cheesecake topped with black stout caramel sauce.
The eatery also will be launching a new ‘Burger of the month’ in February, with the first being an Imperiale BBQ burger topped with smoked provola cheese, pancetta, beer-battered onion rings and an Imperiale Beer BBQ sauce.
Daniel Hall, head chef at the Metrocentre branch of Doppio Malto, said: “The kitchen-brewery concept at Doppio Malto provides so many opportunities to experiment with taste. With Italian craft beers at the heart of our food, we can explore new ways in which we introduce the rich flavours, textures and aromas of the beer into our recipes, creating a really powerful menu that you can’t experience anywhere else.” To book for a Valentine's celebration at the restaurant see here.
