Valentine's Day 2022: Here is the price of a dozen roses on Grafton Street as trader reveals cost has 'doubled'

For the day that's in it, you will probably see quite a few bunches of roses being carried around Dublin by people heading to meet their special person.

If you only buy them once a year or if you're new to all the Valentine's Day romance, it's hard to know where to head to find the best ones and how much you can expect to pay for them.

Perhaps the best place to get your roses this year is at one of the Dublin's beloved and historical flower stalls. If you've ever walked down Grafton Street, you'll know what we're talking about.

Catherine Caffey runs one of those stalls and chatted to Dublin Live about all things floral and what kinds of roses people can buy from her, and how much they would pay for them.

She told us: "The best flowers to buy someone on Valentine's Day are roses. We have long stem red Naomi roses here."

"Roses have doubled in price compared to what they used to be. You can't afford to be buying 12 or 24 roses now. Well some people can, it depends how much money they have.

"We get them in fresh, so we would expect a customer to get ten days out of them.

"We have the pink roses here. They're called Jamelia roses. They're also a long stemmed rose. They're very popular this year because they last. You would get maybe more than ten days out of them.

"At the moment, for a dozen roses you would be talking around €60. So a fiver per stem."

Catherine joked: "We would sell quite a few single roses. The young lads would buy one, or the miserable aul fellas. They just want to be giving it for the sake if it."

She also went on to show us the tulips they sell which come in a wide variety of colours.

"They're seasonal so if you want to stay away from the roses, they're the ones for you."
