The Plateau Before the Climb
Vagamon sits at roughly 1,100 metres and behaves like a place that has not decided whether it is a meadow or a cloud. The grass hills here are not the dramatic peaks that draw trekkers to Munnar; they are wide, open, and slightly damp at every hour. The Murugan Mala and Thangal Para viewpoints are the ones that appear on lists, but the more honest approach is to walk the ridge between them in the early morning before any vehicle arrives. The mist does not lift cleanly here, it thins and patches and returns. By eight in the morning, the tea stalls at the main junction are open and the buses from Kottayam have begun to arrive. If you are continuing toward Kanthalloor, this is the last reliable fuel stop and the last place where the road is wide enough to be called comfortable.
