Vaclav Hladky wanted for Aberdeen transfer as Jim Goodwin eyes reunion with ex St Mirren keeper

Abedeen manager Jim Goodwin is keen to bring Vaclav Hladky back to the Scottish Premiership.

The Dons boss has previously worked with the reliable Czech keeper at St Mirren and labelled him the best keeper in Scotland.

The 31-year-old has currently lost the No. 1 spot at Ipswich Town and Goodwin is ready to offer him the carrot of first-team football at Aberdeen.

Hladky left St Mirren for Salford City, where he was named the league’s top keeper, before Ipswich agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to take him to Portman Road in the summer.

He started the season between the sticks but has since lost his place to Christian Walton, since Kieran McKenna came in as manager.

Aberdeen boss Goodwin, who has admitted already having held talks with signing targets, had previously tried to sign St Mirren keeper Jak Alnwick on a pre-contract.

The Dons and Hibs both made approaches but it looks likely that Alnwick is destined for English Championship side Cardiff City.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen have also confirmed the termination of Jay Emmanuel Thomas’s contract more than a year earlier.

Record Sport revealed last month that the big striker was facing a fight to save his Pittodrie career under Jim Goodwin.

The big striker arrived from Livingston in the summer as one of Stephen Glass’s marquee signings but failed to hit the heights.

The frontman scored one just goal in his time at Pittodrie.

A short Aberdeen statement confirmed: ‘The club can this afternoon confirm it has terminated the contract of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

‘The forward made 24 appearances for the Dons, making 12 starts and 12 substitute appearances and netted once.

‘All at Aberdeen FC wish Jay the very best in his future career.’
