CHENNAI: The antibodies acquired through vaccinations to protect people against Covid-19 ebb away early in people above 60 years of age, particularly those with comorbid conditions, increasing the risk of breakthrough infections by up to 15 times and risk of hospitalisation by up to 10 times, a study by scientists at the Directorate of Public Health has found.
The decline was also swifter in people injected with Covishield compared to those who had taken Covaxin or those who acquired the infection naturally.
