Uttarakhand HC seeks govt reply on opening of old age homes in all districts

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand high court on Wednesday asked the state government to file its reply in a plea seeking opening of old age homes in all the 13 districts with medical and other basic facilities.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by Dehradun-based NGO Samadhan.

After hearing the PIL, a division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari ordered the health and family welfare department secretary to submit the reply by December 7, when the case will be taken up again for hearing.

In the PIL, Samadhan said the court in 2018 directed the government to open old age homes in all the districts with all facilities for elderly people. But even after 4 years, the PIL stated, the state government was yet to comply with the court order.
