Uttar Pradesh is turning to livestock farming to strengthen rural incomes, with a new mission offering financial assistance for indigenous cattle and subsidised insurance to encourage farmers to expand beyond crop cultivation.
The state Cabinet on October 27 approved the State Livestock Mission, under which farmers buying eligible indigenous cows will receive a subsidy of Rs 40,000 per animal, PTI reported. The government will also pay 85% of the livestock insurance premium, leaving owners to bear the remaining 15%.
