Uttar Pradesh: SC/ST girls to get technical education at Rs 1, says minister Ashish Patel

LUCKNOW: Girls belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) community in UP will now get technical education at Re 1.

Technical education minister Ashish Patel on Friday announced that all technical universities and government engineering colleges will educate girls coming from economically and socially weaker sections (SC/ST) for Re 1 and the expense for their education will be borne by the institute.

The step, Patel said, is to empower women and make India self-reliant.

“We will soon implement this proposal to provide education to girls of SC/ST community,” said Patel.

Chairing a review meeting, Patel also directed technical institutions to install biometric verification systems to record teachers’ attendance.

Patel also said that the state in a span of three months will boast of a world class pharmaceutical and bio-engineering research centre.

Patel also asked universities to strengthen their alumni network that will act as a mentorship and support system.

Patel directed officials to form a fresh committee for filling vacant posts.

The minister pushed for efforts to curb mass exodus of students to other states in search of quality technical education.

Patel also stressed on a ranking system for engineering colleges and enhancing the accreditation system.

He also asked officials to prepare a report on making the affiliation process transparent and attractive.
