LUCKNOW: Chandani Bharti, 21, who hails from a small hamlet in Kannauj district, had a traumatic journey home from war-torn Ukraine to the Hungary border before her flight to freedom to India.
She fell ill, ran out of cash, booked a bus to Poland and was then forced to flee towards the Hungarian border. “I first tried to move towards the Polish border, but was denied entry. Later, I trekked towards the Hungarian border and slept in the open in freezing temperatures for two days. I was hungry and ill,” she told TOI.
