MUZAFFARNAGAR: Setting an example of communal harmony, people from the Muslim community showered flower petals on Lord Shiva devotees, who are on their way to collect water from the Ganga and offer it in Shiva temples in their localities or those situated in historical places. Like every year, this time too necessary arrangements like setting up of resting and drinking water facilities, health camps will be organised on NH58 in Muzaffarnagar for the kanwariyas by the Muslims as a mark of respect.
Ahmed Hussain, a local resident, said, “Muzaffarnagar is also known as ‘mohabbat nagar'. Every religion should be respected and people of every faith should be given the right to live the way they want. We want to join them in their prayers and give out a message of Hindu-Muslim unity.”
Echoing similar sentiments, another resident, Mohammad Zulfiqar, said, “It is not the first time that Muslims here are welcoming the kanwarias. Since the last 30 years, I have been welcoming these pilgrims here in Sarwat. India is known for its diversity where people from across different religions and cultures live together in harmony.” Kanwar Yatra began on July 14 and officials have estimated that around "four crore" kanwarias are expected to reach Haridwar after a two-year Covid gap.
Meanwhile, SSP Vineet Jaiswal said, "The district has been divided into 9 super zones, 16 zones, 53 sub zones and 80 sectors to ensure the successful completion of kanwar yatra, while the entire route is being monitored with more than 500 CCTV cameras".
