LUCKNOW: In a major boost to development works undertaken by the UP MLAs, their local area development fund was increased from the existing Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore per annum on Tuesday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made this announcement on the floor of the house during his speech on the state budget. The announcement was welcomed with the thumping of desks by MLAs of both ruling and opposition parties.
Both MPs and MLAs get local area development (LAD) Fund which is used by them to undertake development work in their constituencies. The raised amount for UP legislators is equal to what MPs get as their local area development fund. On an average, there are five MLAs in one Lok Sabha constituency represented by an MP.
Leader of opposition Akhilesh Yadav said all the members wanted the MLALAD Fund to be increased and the leader of the House accepted it. He expressed his gratitude to everyone.
This is the third time the MLALAD Fund has been increased ever since Yogi took over as the CM. It was raised from Rs 1.5 crore to 2 crore in 2019. Then again in February 2020, it was increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore per annum.
