Uttar Pradesh: Man hangs self to death after killing wife over tiff

KANPUR: The body of a man living in his in-laws’ house was found hanging from a ‘neem’ tree outside the house, while his wife’s body was found lying in a pool of blood in the room inside the house in a village in Kotwali police area of Kannauj district on Sunday. Police suspects that the man, after killing his wife, committed suicide. However, the police are investigating the case from all possible angels.

The police have identified the deceased as Shakti Singh, a native of Jaswantnagar area of Etawah, and his wife Arti, of Srinagar locality of Kannauj. The two got married about six years ago. They used to quarrel frequently over domestic issues.

Arti, after returning from her in-laws’ house along with son Shiva (3), was staying at her maternal house since past two weeks.

“Her husband Shakti Singh too had arrived at his in-laws’ place on June 22 and was there since then,” said the police.

On late Saturday night Shakti and his wife Aarti also went to sleep with their child Shiva, said police adding, “When Shiva woke up in the morning and tried to wake up his mother, he started crying when he did not receive any response from his mother.”

Hearing Shiva’s cries, all family members reached the room, where they found Aarti’s body lying in a pool of blood. Later, they found Shakti’s body hanging from the ‘neem’ tree outside the house.

“From preliminary investigations, it seems that Shakti after quarrelling with his wife had apparently killed her and then hanged himself to death,” said circle officer (City) Deepak Dubey, who added, “Bodies have been sent for postmortem and further investigations are continuing.”
