LUCKNOW: In a boost to fire security and prevention, 25 new fire stations in 18 districts were inaugurated by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday.
The CM also flagged off 25 fire tenders from Lok Bhawan in Lucknow.
On strengthening the fire department and reducing casualty, Yogi said that when his government came to power in 2017, 97 new fire stations were announced. “Of these, 25 are fully constructed and ready to provide services from today. Five more will become functional soon,” he said.
The CM also said that 838 long-pending promotions in the fire department on different ranks were completed and around 3,000 fire safety personnel were recruited.
Laying emphasis on technology, Yogi added that drones should be used in areas not easily accessible. He also mentioned that 241 fire fighting vehicles of different types have been purchased through corporate social responsibility initiatives in the past five years. On reforms, the CM said that units of State Disaster Relief Force and State Disaster Management Authority and the fire department must work together to act swiftly in incidents of fire and reduce losses.
Besides, fire safety awareness programmes must be held for students and their parents through college, school and university teachers.
Additional chief secretary, home, Awanish Awasthi, said that use of drones will begin soon to prevent fire in high-rise buildings.
DGP DS Chauhan said that because of the government’s initiatives, the fire department was making inroads in the remotest villages using latest techniques.
