LUCKNOW/GORAKHPUR: Murtaza Abbasi, who's accused of a murderous attack on policemen at Gorakhnath temple earlier this month, was charged under stringent provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on Saturday and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
A district court in Gorakhpur approved prosecution of the IIT-Bombay graduate under the anti-terror law on a plea by UP anti-terrorism squad (ATS), which produced evidence of Murtaza Abbasi's direct links with jihadist groups in West Asia, particularly ISIS, and his money trail from Nepal to global terror networks. Abbasi will be shifted to Lucknow prison and tried at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in the state capital.
