BIJNOR: After staging a one-day protest at the district collectorate and CMO office over non-payment of dues for the past six months, Asha and Sangani workers in Bijnor have issued an ultimatum to health authorities to clear their dues by June 12.
State president of Asha Karyakarta Welfare Association, Girja Devi, said, “Asha workers shoulder the responsibility of public health and contribute immensely to a healthy society which forms the base of a productive state. We had staged a one-day protest two days ago and met the health authorities. They have given assurance that dues will be paid by June 12. If not, we will launch state-wide agitation.” “We go door to door in the scorching heat. Some of us even fall sick but we continue our work because we know that if we sit back, many others will suffer. We have not received our payments since January,” said Rekha Pal, district president of Asha Karyakarta Welfare Association.
When contacted Bijnor CMO Vijay Kumar Goel, he said, “We have some funds which will be given to Asha workers and sanginis by June 12. Payments will be made in installments. The remaining dues will be cleared next month.” Harveer Dabas
