Utah reportedly showing interest in Eric Gordon trade with Rockets

With one day left until Thursday’s trade deadline for the 2021-22 NBA season, Rockets guard Eric Gordon still has an uncertain future. However, there does appear to be a solid market for the veteran, should Houston general manager Rafael Stone opt to make a move.

Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Utah Jazz are one team poised to make a move for Gordon as the hours wind down. He writes:

The Utah Jazz expressed interest in trading for Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon, league sources told HoopsHype.

Utah has dangled the expiring contract of Joe Ingles, who is out for the rest of the season, and a first-round pick around the league in search of an upgrade. Now, the Jazz must replace Ingles (out for the season with a knee injury) altogether. The Rockets are seeking a first-round pick in trade talks for Gordon, as reported on HoopsHype in mid-January.

Gordon has positive history in Salt Lake City, including a career-high 50-point game in January 2020 and several strong showings during a pair of series wins by the Rockets in the 2018 and 2019 playoffs.

As the 2021-22 deadline nears, Gordon continues to have one of the most efficient seasons of his NBA career. The 14-year veteran is shooting a career-high 49.1% from the field and 42.7% on 3-pointers, and he remains an impact player defensively, as well. In 29.5 minutes per game, Gordon is averaging 14.2 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Rockets.
