UT education dept moves to plug book supply gaps

Poviet Kaur

CHANDIGARH: These days, parents are struggling to get NCERT books in Chandigarh. However, the Chandigarh education department claimed that students studying in government schools of the city would not face any shortage as the education department has already made preparations.

If students do not get books in the market, they will provide study material by downloading and printing them from various websites of NCERT and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The education department started planning on seeing the problems being faced by students in private schools. The new education session, 2022-2023 started on April 4 in private schools. The biggest problem is lack of stock of NCERT books.

According to the New Education Policy 2020, the syllabus has changed. After changing the pattern, syllabus will be made more practical than theory. In such a situation, there has been less printing from NCERT.

Students of class 9th, 10th, and 12th will get study material

According to Right to Education (RTE) Act, study material from nursery to Class VIII is provided free of cost by government schools. Students of classes IX to XII have to buy books themselves from the market. Classes 9th, 10th and 12th are starting from April 13. Class 11 studies will start after declaration of Class 10 results, which will be after May 2022.

District education officer (DEO) Prabhjot Kaur said, “No obstacle will be allowed in studies of students. If the stock of books is not available in the market, then we will print the study material ourselves after taking approval from NCERT. Teachers have complete knowledge of the syllabus, they can download and print better material for the students.
