Both Megan Rapinoe and Ali Krieger announced that they would be retiring from soccer after the 2023 NWSL season.
However, they aren’t completely done with the sport yet as both of their NWSL teams—Rapinoe’s OL Reign and Krieger’s Gotham FC—are set to compete against each other in the championship on Saturday, Nov. 11. Their careers will both end after the game, and one of the players will walk away with a title. It’s truly a “storybook ending,” as many fans are calling it.
The two USWNT greats helped the national team to two World Cup titles in 2015 and ‘19. Rapinoe appeared in the USWNT uniform one last time on Sept. 24, while Krieger last played for the team in 2021.

Rapinoe has spent her entire NWSL career with the Reign, as she joined in the inaugural year back in 2013. The Reign have never won a NWSL title.
This is Krieger’s second season with Gotham, and she has yet to win an NWSL title, too.
The NWSL Championship game will kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 11 from Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
