The USS George Washington is heading to the Middle East to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln after the carrier and its roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines reached a 265-day deployment, intensifying scrutiny over crew welfare.
The Lincoln left San Diego in November 2025 and was originally expected to return in May. Its deployment was extended as the United States became increasingly involved in the conflict with Iran.
