USMNT’s Christian Pulisic Reacts to World Cup Victory After Injury

Christian Pulisic may have been sent to the hospital for scans after injuring himself while scoring the game-winning goal against Iran, but that didn’t stop the U.S. men’s national team star from celebrating.

The 24-year-old posted on Instagram, “No words to explain what this means to us ! Let’s go @usmnt 🇺🇸” with a gallery of photos. He scored the lone goal that lifted the USMNT to the knockout round for the first time since 2014.

The team confirmed Tuesday night that Pulisic suffered a pelvic contusion and is considered “day-to-day.” The forward was injured when he collided with the Iran goalkeeper, writhing on the ground inside of the goal in pain despite having just scored the first World Cup goal of his career.

Pulisic left the pitch to receive medical attention but remained in the game for the final minutes of the first half. He was subbed off at halftime and replaced by Brenden Aaronson.

Prior to his injury, Pulisic had played every minute of the World Cup, the first of his career. The U.S. has scored two goals in three games at this year’s event—one of which was scored by Pulisic on Tuesday, and the other assisted by him in last week’s 1-1 draw against Wales.
