Australia's Usman Khawaja capitalised on an unexpected comeback on day one of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, leading his side to 194 for five against a battling England.

A day after his international career appeared to be at an end, and a day before his 39th birthday, Khawaja was handed a surprise return after Steve Smith's eleventh hour withdrawal.
