Trump's return to the White House has intensified a "downward spiral" on human rights that was already taking place under pressure from Russia and China, according to the annual World Report published by Human Rights Watch.
In its report, the global human rights watchdog asserted that the world has been in a “democratic recession” over the past 20 years, with democracy declining to historically low levels not seen since 1985, before the collapse of the Soviet Union.
