The United States will be going to Israel with new information from a Washington Post report that contradicts the results of an Israeli investigation into the death of 5-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was found dead in Gaza in February.
During a briefing, a State Department spokesperson stated that they will be taking the information from the Washington Post report back to the government of Israel to request further details. The report challenges Israel's claim that there were no IDF units in the area at the time of Hind Rajab's death.
The spokesperson expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Hind Rajab, emphasizing that such incidents should never happen. The US had previously urged Israel to investigate Rajab's death and continues to call for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding her passing.
Additional details reveal that Rajab was discovered deceased after being trapped in a car with family members who had allegedly been shot by Israeli forces weeks earlier. Furthermore, rescue workers sent to locate her were also reportedly shot and killed.
