US tech firm Arctic Wolf opens new European headquarters in Newcastle city centre

The first wave of hundreds of new tech jobs have been launched on Tyneside with the opening of a new office in the North East.

US cyber security specialist Arctic Wolf has created 30 initial roles at its new base in Newcastle city centre, and it expects to attract several hundred workers to the base in the coming years as the firm expands. The company’s office on Grey Street has been officially opened by Clare Loveridge, Arctic Wolf’s vice president and general manager EMEA, who grew up in Newcastle but left the city to further her career.

Arctic Wolf’s opening of its new EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) headquarters in Newcastle follows rapid growth across the territory and is expected to help establish the North East as a new hub for leading technology firms.

The company, which has its head office in Minnesota, first created an EMEA team last April and has since then opened its first European security operations centre in Germany, where it has doubled its customers quarter-over-quarter across the region.

It has established teams in nine countries across Europe, recruited over 90 EMEA partners and continues to add around 20 new partners each quarter. It also established its first teams in South Africa and Norway this month and has plans to continue to expand into new markets next year.

Ms Loveridge said: “Arctic Wolf continues to grow, and we have ambitious hiring goals, both for staff and partners. The time is right for the EMEA team to have a home base in the UK, and as a Geordie myself, I am excited to establish that headquarters in Newcastle. Establishing our home here in the North East was an easy decision.

“The UK workforce is changing and the North East has quickly established itself as a new hub for leading technology firms looking to set up shop outside of the capital. There is a fantastic pool of talent growing in the region which we look forward to attracting to Arctic Wolf.”

Dawn Dunn, digital and tech sector lead at Newcastle Gateshead Initiative (NGI), said: “It’s fantastic to see this fast-growing US-based cyber security company cementing their commitment to Newcastle with the launch of their Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) UK headquarters. They have embedded themselves in the heart of our tech ecosystem and vibrant city centre.

“This is a real commitment and a major step forward in growing their team and profile in the North East. The region has a wealth of expertise in cyber security and I look forward to watching them thrive as they continue to grow our talent pool.”
