US Strikes Houthi Weapons Storage In Yemen

Royal Air Force conduct further strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen

The United States conducted a series of strikes targeting five 'hardened underground weapons storage locations' in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. The strikes were carried out by B-2 stealth bombers, as confirmed by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday evening.

Austin described the operation as a unique demonstration of the US' ability to target facilities that adversaries attempt to shield from attacks, even when deeply buried underground or fortified. The use of US Air Force B-2 Spirit long-range stealth bombers showcased the country's global strike capabilities to engage targets as needed, regardless of location.

The decision to authorize the strikes was made by Austin at the direction of President Joe Biden. The primary objective was to further degrade the Houthis' capabilities following a series of attacks on US and international vessels in the region over the past year. The targeted facilities were reportedly storing various weapons components used in these attacks on vessels in the Middle East.

Austin emphasized that the US will continue to communicate to the Houthis that there will be repercussions for their unlawful and dangerous actions. The strikes serve as a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
