U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrapped up his overseas trip with a meeting with the leader of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi. This meeting marked a significant diplomatic outreach between the United States and Russia since the start of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The discussions between Rubio and Sheikh Mohammed covered various important topics, including the ongoing ceasefire in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas. The UAE, which recognized Israel in 2020, has played a crucial role in mediating prisoner swaps between Russia and Ukraine.
