The United States has announced a comprehensive plan to hold 12 offshore wind auctions over the next five years, marking a significant step towards expanding renewable energy sources in the country. This initiative aims to accelerate the development of offshore wind projects along the East Coast, supporting the Biden administration's goal of reaching 30 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
The plan, unveiled by the Department of the Interior, outlines a series of competitive lease sales that will cover nearly 2.3 million acres of federal waters. These auctions will provide opportunities for developers to secure rights to build wind farms off the coasts of states such as New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
