US Lawmakers Warn Of Growing Cyber Threat From China

Comedian Jon Stewart leaves the U.S. Capitol after lobbying lawmakers in Washington

A bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers recently visited Taiwan, led by the chair of the Select Committee on China. During the visit, they met with Taiwan's president to discuss the strong partnership between the US and Taiwan, which was described as stronger and more rock solid than ever.

While there is bipartisan support for the US-Taiwan partnership, concerns have been raised about the potential threat from China. The possibility of a Chinese cyber attack on Taiwan has been highlighted, with reports of increasing cyber attacks targeting various sectors in Taiwan.

The head of the FBI has also warned about the potential for cyber attacks from China, emphasizing the Chinese Communist Party's significant investment in cyber attack capabilities. Taiwan is reported to face around 20 million cyber attacks per month, with the Taiwanese military alone experiencing 3,000 attacks daily from the CCP and its partners.

There are questions about whether the US would come to Taiwan's aid in the event of a Chinese attack. Some members of the Republican Party have expressed concerns about the US policy of strategic ambiguity towards China and Taiwan. However, there is a call for ensuring that Taiwan has the necessary tools to defend itself, including addressing a $20 billion backlog in arms sales to Taiwan.

It is emphasized that a strong Taiwan military is crucial for deterrence and maintaining peace in the region. The importance of US support for Taiwan's defense capabilities is highlighted to prevent conflict and ensure stability in the region.

There is a plea for unity and cooperation within the US political system to address global security threats effectively. The message is clear that when America is united and responsible, the world is a safer place, whereas political dysfunction can be exploited by adversaries like Putin and Xi Jinping.
