Another potential round of tariffs under US President Donald Trump could affect exports from 60 countries, including India, as the United States begins three days of hearings on a proposal to impose fresh import duties over concerns that these countries are not doing enough to stop goods made with forced labour from entering global supply chains. India has disputed the USTR's findings and sought termination of the investigation.
The investigation, launched in March 2026, looked into situations where forced labor is used directly in manufacturing. It also examined cases where countries fail to prohibit imports made with forced labour and use them in goods exported to the United States.
