Singh was deported on August 3, DHS said, as part of a wider removal operation involving five non-US nationals with criminal records. The department described Singh as a “criminal illegal alien from India”.

Four others deported

Four other people from Guatemala, Mexico and Chile were also deported last week.

Ramon Gregorio Herrera-Ruiz, from Guatemala, was deported on August 4. His convictions included homicide, three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a licence. He had also been arrested for obstructing police and public-order offences.

Mexican national Jorge Martinez-Guerrero was also deported on August 4 after convictions for homicide, negligent manslaughter, vehicle offences and illegal re-entry.

Berta Montano Jimenez, the only woman among the five, was deported on August 6. She had convictions for dealing in and manufacturing firearms without a licence and delivering firearms to a carrier without written notice.

Williams Alejandro Cortes Contreras, from Chile, was deported on August 4 following convictions for first-degree residential burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.

DHS Secretary said

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the latest removals were part of ICE's efforts to remove immigrants convicted of serious offences.

“Every day, the brave men and women of ICE work tirelessly to arrest and remove dangerous illegal aliens from our country,” Mullin said.

He added:

“Just last week, we deported killers, drunk drivers, sexual assailants, and weapons traffickers.”

Mullin also claimed that crime rates had fallen to historic lows as deportations increased, crediting President Donald Trump with the administration's immigration enforcement policy.

DHS did not provide further details about the individual cases in its statement.
