Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita received Tuesday a phone call from his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
“The conversation focused on the development of bilateral relations in the framework of mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and strengthening sectoral cooperation,” a statement from Morocco’s foreign ministry said.
The pair also discussed “regional and international issues,” it added.
Bourita also received on Tuesday in Rabat a US Congress delegation. The delegation also met with Moroccan Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami.
The American delegation hailed the “firm” bilateral partnership with Morocco, especially in security, economy, and military.
Salud Carbajal, a member of the US Congress, praised the partnership between Morocco and the United States at the economic, military, and security levels.
He said the world is facing several future challenges including in climate change, and that the US and Morocco share a common vision on possible means to resolve them, mainly through renewable energy.
"We recognize the leading role of Morocco in the region," said Congressman Adriano Espaillat, stressing the US keenness to continue this partnership, which he described as solid.
"We will continue to work to develop our relationship with Morocco," said Sylvia Garcia, also a member of the US delegation.
