Donald Trump has rejected calls for the artificial intelligence industry to slow its rapid development, arguing that the United States cannot afford to give China an advantage in the race for AI dominance.

The president has played down warnings about the technology's potential dangers while making competition with Beijing a central part of his argument for keeping American AI companies moving quickly.
