US and UK conduct strikes on Houthi targets in Red Sea

U.S. and U.K. conducted strikes at 16 locations to disrupt Houthi attacks on shipping.

In a joint effort, the United States and the United Kingdom, with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, conducted strikes on 16 locations in the Red Sea. These strikes targeted multiple missile, radar, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capabilities belonging to the Houthi rebels. The purpose of these strikes was to disrupt and degrade the Houthis' ability to carry out attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

The strikes were in response to the Houthis' indiscriminate attacks on commercial shipping and mariners in this vital waterway. Over 50 countries have been affected by these attacks, necessitating an international response. Prior warnings were issued to the Houthis, stating that their reckless and dangerous actions must cease, or else there would be consequences. These strikes were a result of those warnings.

It is important to note that the conflict between Israel and Hamas remains contained to Gaza. While the Houthis may claim that this is part of the Israel-Hamas conflict, the reality is that their actions have targeted vessels operating in international waterways, affecting countries from around the world. The goal of these strikes is to deter the Houthis from further attacks and prevent the conflict from escalating into a wider regional conflict.

The initial assessment indicates that the strikes have had positive effects. The situation will continue to be monitored, and if necessary, further action will be taken. The United States, along with the international community, is taking responsible and deliberate measures to deter future attacks while ensuring regional stability.

Regarding the movement of additional troops to the region, there are currently no plans to do so. The U.S. military has the flexibility to deploy forces anywhere in the world if required. However, at present, there are no announcements regarding the deployment of additional forces.

Saudi Arabia, an important regional partner, has called for restraint in the region in response to the strikes. Specific details regarding their prior knowledge of the strikes cannot be disclosed. The focus remains on working closely with the international community, allies, and partners to ensure regional security and stability.

In regards to Secretary Austin's involvement, he has been actively engaged throughout the process. While recovering in the hospital, he has participated in meetings, had conversations with the President, engaged with the National Security Advisor and military commanders, and closely monitored the situation. Secretary Austin remains in good condition and is recovering well.

The goal of these strikes is clear - to deter further Houthi attacks on commercial shipping and maintain stability in the region. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community will closely monitor the response and take necessary actions to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and innocent lives.
