A US military aircraft was spotted circling over the skies of Aberdeenshire by eagle-eyed Scots. The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was seen by locals before landing at Aberdeen Airport.
The Osprey is a unique aircraft that makes use of two helicopter-style rotors which means it can take off vertically rather than needing to use a runway to get off the ground, Aberdeen Live reports.
The jet has been likened to something 'out of Star Wars'. The United States Air Force (USAF) keeps the aircraft at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, where it is used by the 7th Special Operations Squadron for top-secret missions involving US special forces.
The Osprey has been in other parts of Scotland in recent weeks, although military aircraft movements are difficult to trace on platforms like FlightRadar24, the aircraft was seen landing at Glasgow Airport a few months ago.
Many were amazed at the sight of the sci-fi style machine and took to social media to share their experiences.
Liam Campbell was among those to have taken photographs. He said: "Just saw it as I was heading to catch the bus back home from work. Got a Snapchat from my pal earlier with it flying in over his work so I tried to catch it as it was sitting and just got lucky."
Commenting on Fubar News, Heather Blacklaw said: "Saw this flying at the beach at about 17.20 heading back home with hubby. It was him that noticed it. I thought it was something from Star Wars, it had two propellers at the front. Glad we seen it now, awesome."
Donald Hadden added: "Saw one landing at Tain Range yesterday - maybe same one. Lots of activity at the moment - Chinooks and Apaches on the go as well."
