Urgent warning to South Dublin residents after string of robberies where burglar removes window pane

South Dublin families have been urged to secure their homes and hide their valuables after a string of burglaries in the area.

There have been multiple burglaries and break-ins in Woodstown Village, Knocklyon and surrounding estates over the past few weeks. The window pane is usually taken out so home alarms are not set off.

It is reported that valuables left downstairs are usually grabbed like car keys and wallets, with residents being asked not to leave their belongings near the door. A house in Orlagh Downs was robbed in the early hours of Monday, 12 September.

A home on Woodstown Lawn was also burgled at around 3am the same day. Garda investigations are ongoing into several of the robberies with no arrests made yet.

A post in a local group said: "Regarding the burglaries in Woodstown last week the Gardai have told us:

- it’s likely the same individual involved in all the burglaries

- he takes out the window pane so as not to set off alarms

- he is looking to take car keys, phones and cash left downstairs so please keep valuables upstairs and out of sight!

- is usually around about 4/5am

So lockup everyone and keep the valuables out of sight!"

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a burglary that occurred at a property on Orlagh Downs, Knocklyon, in the early hours of Monday 12th September 2022. No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing.
