Urgent warning to dog owners as puppy dies after walk in nature reserve

A couple whose puppy died after taking it on a walk to a nature reserve have come forward to share their story in the hope they can save other dog walkers and their pets the same tragic fate. They have warned that the dog came into contact with a substance that could be common across the country.

Owner Hannah May Washington and her boyfriend Jordan Shearman had been walking cocker spaniel Roo at their local beauty spot, Anton Lakes. The popular dog walking spot has a river and lake within its Nature reserve. But the puppy sadly died shortly after the outing.

It is suspected the location in Andover has a naturally-occurring substance that is deadly to dogs. The local council has advised dog walkers to keep pets out of the water as they test it for blue-green algae.
